When people keep crossing my path, I take it as a sign they are there for a reason. That’s exactly how it has been with Poppy and her pony, Slinky. I first met Poppy at the BD North and West Winter Ball, and since then our paths have crossed many times—at clinics, through clients, and finally, when it was time to get her in front of my camera for an unforgettable equestrian photoshoot.
Meet Poppy and Her Pony Slinky
Poppy is one of those special people who truly reflects the heart of my business. At just 12 years old, she’s wise beyond her years, full of energy, and completely devoted to her gorgeous pony, Slinky. She’s also one of the most hard-working, kind, and inspiring young riders I’ve had the pleasure of photographing.
A Stunning Photoshoot Location
When I arrived at Poppy’s home, I was greeted with a tour of the most breath-taking setting—immaculate fence-lined fields and beautifully landscaped gardens. The location was perfect for capturing natural and timeless horse and rider portraits.
We began the session beneath Nicola’s favourite tree, where Poppy and Slinky shared relaxed, joyful moments together. From walking shots to soft, candid poses, every frame highlighted their incredible bond.
Capturing Poppy’s Personality
With each setup, I was able to showcase not only Poppy’s radiant personality—bright, fun, and full of sunshine—but also the love and trust between her and Slinky. My favourite part of the shoot took place in the family’s vibrant garden. Surrounded by summer blooms and dressed in my favourite outfit of the afternoon, Poppy’s warmth and youthful energy shone through every photo.
Including the Whole Family
Of course, no children’s equestrian photoshoot would be complete without involving the whole family. Poppy’s brother, Seb, joined in with his much-loved pet tortoise, Lightning, while the family dogs happily got involved too. We wrapped up the day with a full family portrait session—capturing not just their love of animals, but also the closeness and joy they share as a family.
Looking Ahead
It’s clear that both Poppy and Seb are inspired by their parents’ entrepreneurial spirit and supportive nature. I have no doubt these two will go on to achieve incredible things, and I can’t wait to see where their journeys take them next.
