Celebrating the end of school is so much more than the last exam or the excitement of prom season. It marks a turning point: choosing new paths, deciding who you want to surround yourself with (people and animals), and embracing the start of a brand-new chapter.
When Victoria approached me about a prom photoshoot with her daughter Molly and their horses—ex-racehorse Dot and loan horse Razzy—I knew this session would be far more meaningful than a typical equine shoot in a ballgown. Like Molly, I had no idea what I wanted to do when school ended. During our consultation, I saw a lot of myself in Molly; the uncertainty about the future, the need for a break from education and an underlying love of horses that provided calm in an otherwise busy world. Whatever we captured during her photoshoot, this was an event to mark a new chapter, a fresh start and the excitement of the unknown.
We started the shoot with Molly in a gorgeous shirt and jeans combination, which just highlighted her natural beauty and provided an authenticity to the calm and happiness that she feels when around the horses. We mixed it up between Razzy and Dot, with the stunning floral surroundings of Emily Watts’ arena framing the images beautifully. We also managed to get Molly’s mom, Vic in front of the camera with her beloved Dot; their bond has been shaped over years together, and these equestrian portraits celebrated not only Molly’s milestone but also the incredible journey Victoria has shared with her horse.
Of course, no prom session would be complete without the dress. Molly’s emerald green fishtail gown, detailed with lace and floral embellishments, was breathtaking against her fair skin and auburn hair. To complete the look, Dot wore a subtle shimmering emerald brow band—perfectly complementing Molly’s styling.
The combination of a stunning prom dress, immaculately turned-out horses, and carefully chosen floral details created images that are both timeless and unforgettable. This was a prom photoshoot with horses that truly captured the essence of Molly’s personality and her love for equestrian life.
Like all my sessions, this one came to a natural close. When Dot and Razzy decided it was time for a siesta in the warm sunshine, we knew it was the perfect time to wrap up. The final gallery brought everything I had hoped, radiating Molly’s peace, joy, and warmth when surrounded by her horses.
Wherever Molly’s journey takes her after school, her kindness and determination will be an asset to any training facility or future employer.
